Science & Social Studies (Global Perspectives)

Science & Social Studies (Global Perspectives) Curriculum

Naturally embedded in any academic curriculum are community building themes. In all subjects we integrate character, values, respect for self and others, and the responsibility children have as members of the community.

In addition to that, we are implementing Cambridge’s Global Perspectives framework. “Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives develops transferable skills that support learners in their studies and in their everyday life. Learners develop skills through age-appropriate and engaging activities that are based on a broad range of topics. They explore personal, local and global perspectives to make sense of, and feel connected to, the world around them.”

For Science this year we will be using Mystery Science, a hands-on and interactive Curriculum. We will be incorporating all Next Generation Grade 5 Science Standards into our Science curriculum. The Science Units are as follows:

  • Web of Life: Ecosystems & The Food Web

  • Watery Planet: Water Cycle & Earth’s Systems

  • Spaceship Earth: Stars & The Solar System

  • Chemical Magic: Chemical Reactions & the Properties of Matter

In addition, all 5th grade students will also be participating in the GHCDS STEM Fair for the first time. As it is their first year, MOST work will be completed at school and we will provide step-by step introductions to the process. We can’t wait to see all of their projects at the fair this year!
